TERESA BURNS (Counsellor): Teresa holds a level 8 B.A. (Hons) degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the Irish College of Humanities and Applied Science (ICHAS) since 2014. In 2007 she also completed a Certificate in Counselling Skills from the National University of Ireland, (NUI) Maynooth. Furthermore, in 2008 Teresa completed 60 hours bereavement counselling/support training in the Family Life Centre Castlebar and she completed 100 hours of training with Mayo Rape Crisis Centre. She holds accredited member status with the Association of Professional Counsellors & Psychotherapists (APCP) since 2016. Teresa works with adolescents, adults and couples and is also a workshop facilitator for Helplink.
FIONA CAHALAN (Counsellor): Fiona holds a MA in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the Irish College of Humanities and Applied Sciences (ICHAS) as well as a BA in Psychology and Gaeilge from Mary Immaculate College,Limerick. She has accredited member status with the Association of Professional Counselling and Psychotherapy (APCP). Fiona has experience working with adolescents and adults and is also a workshop facilitator for Helplink.
ANNE CAHILL (Play Therapist): Anne is a graduate of St Nicholas Montessori College Ireland & has many years experience working with children. She holds a primary degree in Education & Training (NUI, Galway) along with a Post Graduate Diploma in Practice Based Play Therapy, awarded by NUI Galway & the Academy of Play & Child Psychotherapy (QQI Level 9). Anne is a member of Play Therapy Ireland & her work is guided by Play Therapy International’s Ethical Framework. Anne is supervised, insured & Garda Vetted
MELLISSA CARROLL (Counsellor): Mellissa is a qualified psychotherapist and counsellor. She holds a BA in Holistic Counselling and Psychotherapy and is an accredited member of the IACP. Mellissa also holds Higher Diplomas in Anatomy and Physiology of the Body and Bioenergy, Hidden Mind and Connective Sound Therapy, along with an ITEC qualification. She is accredited by the International College for Personal and Professional Development. She is trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), dream analysis, person centred approach, along with many other counselling modalities. Mellissa has over 20 years experience working in the health and wellness sector; working with people ranging in age from 12 – 85 years old. She uses the humanistic approach, with the use of gestalt techniques and body therapy along with working with the subconscious mind.
KAREL DALY (Play Therapist): Karel qualified as a Play Therapist and Psychotherapist from the Children’s Therapy Centre (CTC) (Diploma in Play Therapy & Psychotherapy) in 2011. She is a accredited member of the Irish Association of Play Therapy and Psychotherapy (IAPTP). In the last seven years she has been working in her own private practice with children and teenagers with various challenges. Karel’s experience includes working with children with Autism, Anxiety, Behavioural problems and children who have experienced trauma, abuse, bereavement and loss. She also has extensive experience in dyad work with parents and children. In addition this this she has completed a two year programme in Systematic Constellation Therapy, incorporating the traditional teachings of Bert Hellinger. Karel has also completed the Principles of Art Therapy Certificate with CTC.
CARA GIBBONS (Counsellor): Cara holds an MA in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the Irish College of Humanities and Applied Sciences (ICHAS). She also holds a BSc (hons) in Psychology from Queen Margaret University Edinburgh and an MSC in Health Psychology from NUI Galway. She is pre-accredited with the Association of Professional Counsellors and Psychotherapists (APCP). Cara’s therapeutic style is evidence-based and integrative, providing counselling that is tailored to individual’s needs.
DENISE GORDON (Play Therapist): Denise holds a First Class Honours Postgraduate Diploma in Play Therapy (NFQ: Level 9), First Class Honors Postgraduate Certificate in Therapeutic Play Skills (NFQ: Level 9), B.A. (Hons) in Children Studies from NUI Galway (NFQ: Level 8) and is a Parent Child Attachment Play Practitioner. Denise has provided play therapy sessions in a variety of locations to children with a range of social, emotional and behavioural needs. Some if the locations include various Primary schools, Brothers of Charity, Clann Resource centre and Helplink Support Services. Denise has also created and implemented primary school programmes. Denise is a registered member of PTIRL (Play Therapy Ireland), Garda vetted, PPS insured and completed a Pediatric First Aid course.
DECLAN HESTER (Counsellor): Declan holds a MA in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the Irish College of Humanities and Applied Sciences (ICHAS) as well as a BA (Hons) degree in Applied Social Studies from The Open Training College (OTC) Dublin. He is a pre-accredited member of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP). Declan has additional experience working with adolescents, adults and individuals with an intellectual disability and on the autism spectrum. He is currently working, in conjunction with the ‘Schools Completion Programme’, with adolescents in the Connemara region. Furthermore, Declan is a ‘Mind Hacks’ schools workshop facilitator for Helplink.
AOIFE JENNINGS (Counsellor): Aoife is a MA student in the Counselling and Psychotherapy programme at the Irish College of Humanities and Applied Sciences in Limerick and has recently completed the ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) programme. She studied Radiation Therapy at TCD and also works as a radiation therapist at UHG. Aoife has a particular interest in psychological support for cancer patients, survivors and others affected by any aspect of a cancer diagnosis. Other areas of interest include helping clients with low self-esteem, depression and anxiety.
GLYN JONES (Addiction Counsellor): Glyn holds a Level 8 (1st class Hons.) degree in Counselling from Institute of Technology Tralee and is an Executive Board Member (Vice-Chairman) of Addiction Counsellor’s of Ireland. Glyn is fully accredited with Addiction Counsellor’s of Ireland (ACI). He also works as an addiction therapist in the Bushypark Addiction Treatment Centre.
DIARMUID LAVELLE (Counsellor): Diarmuid is an accredited counselor with IICHP (Irish Institute of Counseling and Humanitarian Psychotherapy ). He has a degree from NUI Galway (Philosophy, Archaeology, Psychology and English) and is currently finishing his masters in cognitive behavioral therapy from ICHAS. Diarmuid is an internationally recognized trainer in NLP and hypnosis, bringing people up to Masters level. He is a published author and is a consultant on many EU projects involving health and wellbeing; giving courses and talks in Spain, Germany, Poland and Bulgaria. He is a therapist and trainer with 22 years full time experience. He specializes in fear control, behaviour, habit control, low mood, relationships, phobias, panic, anxiety and health motivation. Furthermore, Diarmuid is a workshop facilitator for Helplink.
MICHELLE McGAULEY-LEE (Counsellor): Michelle holds a B.A. degree in Counselling Skills and Psychotherapy Studies from the Irish College of Humanities and Applied Sciences (ICHAS) as well as a B.A. in Sociological and Political Studies and Economics (N.U.I. Galway). She is an accredited member of the Association of Professional Counsellors and Psychotherapists (APCP). Michelle has experience working with children, adolescents, adults and couples and is also a workshop facilitator for Helplink.
TERRI MITCHELL (Art Therapist): Terri is Helplink’s Art Therapist; she is a graduate of Crawford College of Art and Design and holds a Masters Degree in Art Therapy, she also holds a BA in Fine art from Sligo Institute of Technology, a certificate in Principles of art Therapy Certificate also from Crawford College of Art and Design and has a Diploma in Art and Design from GMIT. Over the past three years she has worked, as part of her placements, in a variety of settings providing Art Therapy. She has worked with adults with learning disabilities, teenagers as part of Youth Work Ireland and with primary school children with a broad range of needs; including autism, selective mutism and those dealing with bereavement. *Terri is available to see both children (aged 6 upwards) and adults by appointment and is also a ‘Mind Hacks’ workshop facilitator for Helplink.
GEORGINA MURPHY (Counsellor): Georgina holds a B.A. degree in Counselling Skills and Psychotherapy Studies from the Irish College of Humanities and Applied Sciences (ICHAS). She holds accredited member status with the Association of Professional Counsellors and Psychotherapists (APCP).
MICHELLE MURPHY (Counsellor): Michelle is currently studying a Doctorate in Psychotherapy with Dublin City University. Michelle holds a Master of Arts Degree in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree in Counselling & Psychotherapy. Michelle is an accredited Counsellor with the Association of Professional Counsellors and Psychotherapists and is a registered Assessor in Occupational Testing (Level A&B) with the British Psychological Society. Michelle provides a range of individually tailored therapy approaches that are evidence-based and collaborative. Michelle’s interests are in neurological conditions, mindfulness, stress management and health and wellbeing in the workplace.
LIAM O’GRADY (Counsellor): Liam holds a level 8 B.A. (Hons) degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the Irish College of Humanities and Applied Science (ICHAS) since 2017 and a B. Comm. Degree from NUIG since 1989. Since 2016, he has completed over 500 hours of training in HSE-audited addiction group therapy, psychoeducational modules and individual counselling at Saoirse Addiction Treatment Centre, Limerick. He became an accredited member of the Association of Professional Counsellors & Psychotherapists (APCP) in 2019 and joined Helplink in June 2019.
EMMA TYNAN (Counsellor): Emma holds a MA in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the Irish Counselling of Humanities and Applied Sciences (ICHAS) and is currently pre-accredited with the Association of Professional Counsellors and Psychotherapists (APCP). She also holds a BSc (hons) in General Nursing. While working in a DEIS (Delivering Equality of Opportunity in Schools) school, Emma gained experience counselling adolescents. Emma provides an integrative style of counselling that focuses on the individual needs of each client.
TAMAR (TAMMIE) SCOTT (Director of Mental Health Services): Part of her role as volunteer Director of our mental health services is to make sure that all our polices and procedures with regard to our mental health service provision are correct and kept updated, she is also the organisation’s Child Protection Officer and provides group supervision for all Helplink Counsellors/Therapists on a monthly basis. Tammie holds a MA in Counselling Psychology from Boston College and an MBA from NUI Galway. She is accredited and/or member/associate member of the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP), Association of Professional Counsellors and Psychotherapists (APCP), British Psychological Society (BPS), American Psychologies Association (APA) and is an accredited supervisor with APCP. Furthermore, Tammie has many years experience in managing internationally traded companies and also in the management of academic programmes for third level institutions.
